iPhone: Apple would generalize Face ID in 2018 (Update)

  • The main innovation of the iPhone X namely the TrueDepth technology that allows to offer FaceID would not be reserved for Apple's birthday smartphone. According to the rather well-informed Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities, the manufacturer could generalize this technology to all its new models of 2018.
  • It would be to maintain a certain technological lead against its competitors Android. As a consequence of this choice: TouchID, the fingerprint sensor could disappear sooner than expected, while the next terminals would all have a borderless screen, such as the X.
  • According to the analyst, facial recognition could be focused on the next range of iPad Pro. The availability of Face ID on the iPad Pro could increase adoption, he said.
  • The American giant has indeed already transferred on the tablet technologies adopted initially on the iPhone. This is particularly the case of Touch ID, Apple's previous biometric solution. The integration of Face ID on the iPad Pro, its high-end tablets, would allow it to renew its terminals and amortize its investments in R & D.
